Coming from a country where we've got efficiency imprintend into our DNA the concept of a power outage was entirely new to me. It sounded strange and scary and somehow anachronistic - not something you would expect in the 21st century.
But here it was. A day without electricity.
What a revelation!
People work their way through the piles that build up on everyone's desk, the ones we normally never get around to looking at. They clean up their offices and they reconnect with their co-workers, hang out, chat and appreciate each other in a new light. As human beings.
At 4:30, a full half an hour earlier than anticipated, the electricity came back again and the spell was broken. I think everyone should have a power outage at least once a month. It would do wonders for efficiency (a good German argument!) but it would also change the climate in the office for the better.
Given the brand spanking new laptop I was loaned by USP only Tuesday (thanks!!), I got a ton done ... and two more recordings are in the can. Two more and I am actually done with my adults. Horray!
